As always it is a pleasure to work alongside the Marketing team at Royal Exchange Theatre who commissioned me for Audience Development .
The Den an eco-friendly mobile theatre, took place in in Cheetham hill from 29th July – 6th August 2022. With a wonderful programme form dance , theatre, art , workshops for everyone. Through my work I engaged & boosted the audience develop work in M8 , which post covid still has its challenges.
A particular memory shared will be of an audience member who had hesitantly attended the performance – Full English – a story based in Bradford – ‘Using first hand stories, Full English charts Natalie’s journey as she pieces together the fragments of her own mixed race identity through understanding the courage of her Nan – a reggae-dancing Bradford lass whose man of her dreams just happened to be from Pakistan.’
Post show the audience member approached me and hugged me with tears in her eyes saying how she finally got closure from the play as everything was relatable to her being dual heritage.
We don’t realise how much of an impact productions such as this and many more are needed to help navigate those critical conversations and hidden thoughts. Kudos to Royal Exchange to making that change . A huge thank you to Paula & the creative engagement team for the opportunity.
