Project Description
ORPHEUS
Audience Development /Strategy & Advisory Consultant
I was commissioned to work as a consultant bringing in new audiences with OPERA NORTH & THE LOWRY.
Moteverdi Reimagined – this stunning unique production in collaboration with South Asian Arts-uk. is sung in –Italian and Urdu, with English Titles. Also featuring Malayalam, Bengali, and Punjabi. Opera with South Asian Music ! this is mind blowing !
“This adventurous new production of the ancient tragedy is told through a meeting of the worlds of Indian and western baroque classical music. The bowed strings of the violin and the tar shehnai, the hammered strings of the santoor, the plucked strings of the harpsichord and sitar, and the rhythms of the tabla shape a unique and beautiful musical encounter between East and West.”
The Lowry worked with Samina to engage South Asian audiences with the Opera North presentation of Orpheus. Samina was a joy to work with and her contacts list was extensive. She helped us to genuinely engage with Greater Manchester’s South Asian community and as an added bonus attract a huge audience from the community to the performance. The show virtually sold our 1700 seater auditorium and the audience was visibly much more diverse than the usual audience for The Lowry and for opera. Many of the visitors had never visited The Lowry before let alone attended opera before and the project was deemed a great success by all involved with fantastic feedback from all the community members who came. The Lowry would highly recommend working with Samina and intend to continue our partnership in the future.
Opera North worked closely with Samina to grow a new audience for our work at The Lowry. Samina’s knowledge, connections, passion and spirit have had a significant impact and we look forward to collaborating with her again in the near future.
