I Hosted an Interview with Shobna ‘Amazing ‘ Gulati!

As part of the Khushi Festival in Oldham I was honoured to host the ‘In Conversation with Shobna Gulati ‘

This is what What happened …

A huge thankyou to @oldhamcoliseum & everyone who attended ‘ In conversation with Shobna Gulati.. tears & laughter revisiting her memories of Oldham and her ground-breaking beginnings.
Shobna is exceptional & through the conversation her personal journey to present day was amazing to listen to and the challenges shobna faced being a south Asian woman breaking into the industry early in her career.

We are just so blessed to have such authentic South Asian creative representation & talent such as Shobna.

Her recently published book Remember Me? Discovering My Mother as She Lost Her Memory about losing her mother to Dementia is personal & powerful and takes us on a journey that we all perhaps will be able to relate to I most definitely did .

I recall seeing Shobna in the 1st South Asian theatre company Peshkar based in Oldham back in the late 80s /90s , a time when breaking into the arts was challenging and most of all as South Asian young woman was taboo in Oldham/Rochdale.
Questions such as -” well my daughter is going to be a Dactar what is your daughter going to be? ” was always the question asked to my parents. Fortunately my Amee jee ( mum )  & Abujee ( dad)  always supported me everything I aspired to do so they would reply – ” In the media …you know presenting..”
so many community challenges that I personally will share with you all in another piece.

In short -Thankyou SHOBNA GULATI for sharing your personal journey You are such an inspiration x

Go order / buy the book – its brilliant .https://lnkd.in/dGZ-zJsU
